Take Action!

These actions are ranked in order of impact and you are welcome to do some or all of the below.

1: STRENGTH IN NUMBERS! Show up in person to the 1600 School Street appeal town hall hearing:

January 15, 2025 at 5:30 pm – 335 Rheem Boulevard, Moraga

Remind the Moraga Town Council that it is their responsibility to prioritize the safety and wildfire evacuation capacity of Moraga and Orinda residents – not giveaways to developers!

Adding significant population density at the end of the evacuation corridor 5 miles away from SR-24, will further complicate and impede wildfire evacuation efforts for ALL Moraga and Orinda neighborhoods.

The following neighborhoods are PARTICULARLY IMPERILED: Country Club, School Street, Sonsara, Aegis/Moraga Royale, Larch, Rimer, and Sanders Ranch. Our Orinda neighbors living in the Ivy Drive, Glorietta, Lost Valley and Knickerbocker neighborhoods will ALSO BE ADVERSELY IMPACTED!

In 2024, the Contra Costa Superior Court ruled in favor of the Orindans for Safe Emergency Evacuation (OSEE) (smart search for N23-0579), requiring that the Town of Orinda decertify its Plan Orinda Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for failing to adequately address wildfire evacuation and emergency response. Orinda must now revise its EIR and Housing Element. You can read a summary of the case in a recent Lamorinda Weekly article. Despite the State housing mandate, the Courts are recognizing the importance of assessing increased wildfire evacuation risks posed by new developments. We SHALL NOT accept unrestrained development at the cost of public safety!

This appeal hearing is our chance to provide a strong check on local government and remind the Town Council that they CANNOT IGNORE the very legitimate concerns of their Moraga and Orinda neighbors. If we show up in overwhelming numbers – filling the Council chambers and creating a line out the door - we will send a powerful message to our elected officials.
